Installing OpenLinux Getting Started Guide 59 After a few moments, you see the OpenLinux startup screen (see Figure 33). NOTE: Be sure to remove the OpenLinux CD-ROM and/or the Installation diskette (if applicable) before rebooting your OpenLinux system. After the kernel has started, messages that appear indicate several things: Your hardware is examined OpenLinux is started Your system moves immediately into graphics mode You are presented with a graphical login prompt, where you can enter a username and password to begin using OpenLinux. Try logging in at this point. It is a good time to make sure that you can login as the root user and possibly installing commercial software. (During this time, OpenLinux will be running setup programs in the background. So, wait at least five minutes before you reboot.) Next, if you installed OpenLinux from Windows, you may want to add the Boot Magic utility, as described in Chapter 2. For information on shutting down your OpenLinux system correctly, see Chapter 4. NOTE: If you had trouble configuring your graphics card, you may not see the graphical login screen described.
